"For Those That Can, For Those That Can't and For Those That Have Fallen"
The 2020 version of the Veterans Memorial 5K has now become the Veterans Memorial Run at Your Place virtual race due the Covid-19 coronavirus, and while the name has changed and we won't be able to gather on the Marietta Square the Saturday morning after Veterans' Day, the cause and the need to raise funds to help our veterans remains the same.
Now, for 2020, we will switch to a virtual run highlighted by a 30-minute Facebook Live "show" at 10:00 a.m. on November 14th. During the "show" we will highlight videos and pictures sent to us from the registered runners and walkers wearing their race shirt while out running, walking, strolling, couch potatoing, etc. (you'll pick up your race packet and shirt at the American Legion Post 29 at 921 Gresham Ave, Marietta on Monday, 11/2 from 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM).
We will also have videos and interviews with the many sponsors we have, as well as videos from the three beneficiaries - The Shepherd’s Men Shared Military Initiative at the Shepherds Spinal Hospital, The Georgia National Guard Foundation that is operated by the Georgia National Guard, and our Service Office of the American Legion Post 29. The funds raised from this event goes to do great work providing help for our veterans with financial support and other areas of need.
The final segment will be the awards ceremony, where times do not matter as all entrants will be entered to be part of the random drawing of finish cards - first card drawn is the Overall winner of the event, 2nd card drawn is 2nd overall, etc, etc, until all names have been drawn. This could be the first time some of you have either won a race or at least won an age group award (total of 94 awards). More runner/walker/couch potato videos will follow the awards ceremony.
Awards in the 5K to overall male and female, overall male & female masters and the top 3 male and female finishers in 14 age groups from 10 & under to 70 & over in 5-year increments. Results will be determined by random draw.
